Travel Enhances Creativity

Updated: Aug 25, 2021

For the most part, creativity is fueled by fresh and interesting experiences. When the most fascinating part of your day is the commute to and from work, or workplace gossip around the water cooler, your mind's ability to expand and be inspired is limited.

Travel helps you to physically get away from a problem and observe it from a different perspective; take a plane away from the trees and you'll find yourself in the middle of the forest. Even the suggestion of distance can encourage you to think more creatively. Participants in one Indiana University study were instructed to answer a series of riddles.

Why is it so important for your mind, body, and soul to have a jet-setting adventure? Because travelling can stimulate your creativity and improve your overall health.

That's right–traveling can boost your potential to be innovative while also assisting you in de-stressing, which benefits your brain, heart, and physical health.

How do you cause those synapses in your brain to fire? By way of travel.

Many artists, such as writers Ernest Hemingway and Mark Twain, shaped their work by travelling across the world. Hemingway's writings are significantly influenced by his stay in France and Spain, and Mark Twain's travelogue Innocents Abroad chronicles his voyage through the Mediterranean. Their exposure to new and varied cultures is a plus.
